I am curious what the performance differences may be between these 2 props in a twin engine application, specifically my Temptation powered by Yamaha 250's. I can see the physical differences; the Tempest has a straighter trailing edge and less-rounded outer edge. Both are sufficiently cupped. I have some time logged with the Mirage Plus, but would like some thought as to how the Tempest will compare. Holeshot, predicted increased/decreased in RPM, bow/stern lift and preferred mounting height.

All things being equal, the tempest 19 is the fastest prop I have ever run on my boat. It was 2 mph faster on top end than the Mirage plus 19. Same day, same water, same weight, etc. But I run rev 4 17's, as they are smoother and dock better. For me, I don't need top end.

Were you able to spin this prop at a higher RPM or was the extra MPH due to blade geometry?

they spun about the same - maybe 100 more on the tempest...it's a bass boat prop so you will feel it "chop" and has vent holes std that are all open...it's a speed prop for sure. But like I said, it felt rougher at cruise and troll , where I live.

Joe,

In my testing, the Tempest Plus with the same pitch as the Mirageplus will turn 200 RPM more.

The Tempest Plus is a little faster than the M+ by about 1 MPH.

The Tempest Plus will tolerate a slightly higher motor mounting height.

My impression of the Tempest Plus is that it is suitable for boats that can exceed 50 MPH but is not such a great fit for boats that do not (like most Whalers).

Your Temptation might be a good fit with the Tempest Plus. Try them and see how they do, its the only way you will know.

I've got a pair of counter rotating 19" Tempest Plus's, new in the box except for the test runs. I should sell them to somebody who can make use of them.

Thanks Tom, that and the info from glen is what I was looking for. I could not wind up the 23P Mirage plus past 5,200 RPM last year, however this may be the result of the motors not being high enough. I have them mounted all the way up (4th hole) and my vent plate is only 3/4" above the transom/hull transition. My Yamaha SWS props will go up to 5,400 or so and seem to better resemble the Tempest plus blade geometry. The boat handles much better than my previous setting of hole # 2, especially a higher speeds. Before I consider jack plates, I want to exhaust all propeller options. But I would really like to settle on a pair of Rev 4's for everyday (likely 21P). I have a 23P set, but without a higher mounting position, I'm may not even put them on for fear they will be too much pitch at a less than optimum mounting height. I picked up a pair of 23 P Tempest Plus and will try them out at the start the season.
