E-TEC 90-HP motors seem to be a popular re-power choice for the Boston Whaler MONTAUK. I am about to do the same, however my E-TEC dealer is not a Boston Whaler dealer. So to help him out on getting it rigged right the first time, I was wondering how others have their E-TEC mounted. Specifically, is your motor resting on top of the transom splashwell? If not how high above? What prop are you running? What is your max engine speed? What is your maximum boat speed?

For information on the recommended engine speed range at wide-open-throttle for the 90-HP E-TEC, see

The mounting height seems to generally be at least one hole up. That is a good starting point.

I agree with your assessment: the E-TEC 90 has been a very popular choice for re-powering of 17-foot Boston Whaler boats. You should get some first-hand replies from owners with this set up.
