I wish to start a new thread: pros and cons for repowering a 25 wd either with mercury verado 200 l4 or evinrude e-tec 200. thx

Recalling your previous threads, you currently have OMC 225's. E-tecs would make the most sense assuming you can re-use controls. Otherwise, I would choose whatever brand is best represented in your region of Italy. In fact, I probably would go that route anyway.

Pros--New engines with warranty and great mileage.

Cons--Gonna coat a boat load of money.

For the same weight as a pair of 25 inch shaft length I4 Verado 200s (about 525 lbs) you could put a pair of 3.3L E-TEC 200 HO (approximately 218 HP) outboards on the transom of the WD and reuse your controls. The E-TECs would probably be cheaper and give better performance.

I like the idea of buying the least stressed outboard in a model family if that is possible. In this case, the 200HO is the LEAST stressed outboard in the 3.3L V6 E-TEC family. The I4 Verado 200 is the MOST stressed outboard in the I4 Verado family.

If you really need to have digital throttle and shift controls, you can also have that with the E-TEC. You can add that to the recent model year V6 E-TECs as a later upgrade so you don't have to spend the money on it right now since you already have controls on the Whaler that would work with the E-TEC.

For all the grief Larry gets for his bolstering of Mercury performance numbers, I got a good chuckle out of this.
