Author Topic:   Propeller Recommendation Needed

Hi Everyone,

I bought a 1961 16' boat 11 years ago. It sat in my garage "drying out" until this past June when I realized how ridiculous this had become. My son is now 16 and the boat had to get in the water. Well, we finally launched the boat this weekend and had a great time. My son towed the other kids around tubing and water skiing all weekend.

So here is my question. I have a 1990 88SPL mounted on a CMC PT-130. The CMC unit is mounted at the standard engine height and the engine is mounted two positions up. This puts the anti-ventilation plate about 2"-2.5" above the bottom of the boat and set back an extra 6". The propeller that was on the engine when I got it is 13-3/4 X 15. I don't have a tachometer installed yet but the top speed was 38-40mph.

I would like to increase the top end speed and also have a good prop for pulling skiers. Can someone make a recommendation on propellers?

Also, does anyone have demo propellors available?

Thanks,
Kevin

13 1/4 or 13 3/8 x 17 SS prop is what you want and need.

Well we don`t know the weight of the boat or the shape of the bottom, so its a guess. Do you know how many rpms your turning at WOT?

After owning 5 or 6 of them I will say it again...17" pitch ss prop. Should bring you darn close to 5500 on a 16' hull and a healthy 88spl.

I agree with Nick, assuming the hull is not overweight.

Either of the old style SSTs, 13-1/4" x17" or 13-3/8" x 17" or the 13-7/8" SST/Viper will do.

You could also use the 13-1/4" x 15" Stiletto Advantage which will yield about the same RPM as the 17" OMC/BRP props.

Thanks for the advice everyone. The CMC mount and raised engine won't change the recommendation?

For higher motor mounting positions, I would favor the Stiletto.

2.5" is not very high. I had mine close to 5".
