I have noted that on very calm days (no wind) but swell still rolling through that the boat tends to "stick" to the water. When there is a bit of wind chop the hull seems to perform better, possibly because air flows under the hull better?

My boat is a 21 degree half cabin with a weight of 1500kg. The motor is a 2006 Mercury 150hp EFI.

Its hard to explain but the engine still reaches top rpm but it seems to glue down into the water and lose top end on those calm windless days.

Is this a trait of deep V hulls or is it in my imagination.

cheers,

Jake

It is not you imagination.

It is true of all hulls.

I have no idea why, but flat, greasy calm conditions often cause my Whaler to do aggressive "S-turns" and the occasional "power circle" at WOT. Sometimes it also causes the operator (me, if I'm driving) to whoop out loud and usually requires all aboard to brush the bugs out of their Whaler-wide grins when we get back to the dock.

Strange.

That's because you have a loose grip on reality and a need to feel the tears in yer ears like me ^@^ ,,hey max when ya coming up,,Back on subject,,yes the slick smooth water does grab and the very light chop wavy water lets the beast run free

When, or if the conditions are the same, my 13 footer is 1 mph faster in salt water than in fresh water.

Water so calm and beautiful it would have almost been a crime to do anything but idle through it:

Is that your life jacket laying on the bow of the boat?

I think at the time of this picture, Tony was running along just off plane. He is always one to make waves.;)
