I can't find any information on this site [or anywhere else most likely, either] for re-power of a [Boston Whaler MONTAUK 17] with a [newly introduced] HONDA BF60. I believe [the HONDA BF60] weighs 260-lbs. [I am] not sure of its power or history. [Reply with] any thoughts out there. Thanks--Mark |

That is a very new motor. I have been watching and there is no performance information on it at all on [CONTINUOUSWAVE]. Performance reports on the Honda site: http://marine.honda.com/Products/modeldetail/BFP60 |

Yeh I like the weight but not the price [of the HONDA BF60]. A little surprised [the weight of the HONDA DF60 is] so close to the [HONDA BF90] models. I really don't want a heavy outboard on my Montauk with my 5-HP kicker. |

The HONDA BF60 was just introduced in Japan in May of 2009, barely a year ago. It was not introduced in North America until mid-November of 2009, just seven months ago. I don't think it is surprising that there is no first-hand report of the performance of a Boston Whaler MONTAUK 17 with a HONDA BF60 yet contributed. Perhaps you could buy one, make very thorough and detailed records of its performance, and be the first to tell us all about it. |

quote: The BF60 weight is 110-kg. The BF90 weight is 166-kg. That is a difference of 56-kg. In other words, the BF90 has a 50-percent greater weight than the BF60. I don't know where you learned the meaning of the word "close," but I don't consider an ratio of weight of 1.5:1 to be "close." If I were piloting a boat from Los Angeles to Hawaii, a distance of about 2,500 miles, when we were 1,500 miles away, if someone asked me if we were "close" to Hawaii, I would not say, "Yes, we are close." |

The new Honda BF60 weighs 239 pounds for a long shaft model. That means it weighs about the same as the classic OMC 70 HP outboard used for decades on small classic Whalers and is considerably less than the 300 pounds that most conventional two stroke 90 HP outboards weigh. The Honda BF60 is one of the (if not the) lightest power options for a classic Montauk weighing almost 100 pounds less that the very popular two stroke Evinrude E-TEC. There is no way you can characterize the BF60 as a heavy outboard. |

What I meant to say was that the price of both models are almost the same. Mark |

We will know in a few days when I get my new Honda BF60. I have a 1979 Montauk hull with the seating of a 1973 Katama. Original boat was in a fire. I have owned for 10 years and been running the original 1973 Johnson 65 HP. Hope to have some results by next weekend. |

Coming from a 1970 OMC to a modern four-cycle low-emission motor, be prepared to be stunned by how much of an improvement in starting, idle, noise, smoothness, and fuel economy you will experience. |

Actually Tom the E-Tec 60 is a 2cyl and weighs the same as the BF60(240). The lightest 60 now I believe is the Suzuki at like 227. |
