After a long time of lurking, I figured I would share some information regarding my new F70.

I took off my 90 TLR and replaced it with the new F70.

Here are some of the things I have noticed. I am extremely happy with my choice! The boat runs out at 37 MPH at 5,700 RPMS. Two guys, full fuel (22 gallons) and some gear. The motor will keep the hull on plane a just under 14 MPH. Speed out of the hole is very simular. Mid range punch, is very good, but the upper power isn't near what the 90 TLR was. She cruises about 25 MPH at 4,200. Compared to my 90, the F70 burns at least 40% less fuel.

I am still working on the proper prop, and I may go up a hole.

5700 RPM is about 600 RPM short of redline. You might consider stepping down one increment in propeller pitch from whatever you are using now.

Ditto on the prop change - I don't think you want to run overpropped like that. Got any photos of your setup?

I am stepping down to a turbo 16P. I got 39 MPH Yesterday. GPS Speed... Using the old prop. I think the motor is just now broke in. It's running up good.

I will get some photos up tedious.

Thanks for the info on the Yamaha F70. Sounds like a real nice fit for the Montauk. 39mph is .5 mph faster than I get with my 75hp two-stroke.

@Fishmore

Yah it's a nice set up. I grew up with a 17 Montauk as a kid with a 70 Erude. My dad still runs that boat around to this day. It has better performance the the two stroke, and much better MPG. I thought I loved my 90 Yamaha TLR but I don't miss buying two stroke oil, and the noise.

I have had the boat little almost two years. It had a Johnson GT 100. That boat ran like a raped ape what that motor. The boat is 100% orginal, with a few silly features that I have slowly worked through. I like the F70 set up best. If Yamaha does light weight F90 I am in. Until then I am really happy about my F70.
