I have a 1972 13' whaler (sink transom). The time has come to repower as my 1992 Merc 25 has ended its life. After being unable to find a leftover Yamaha 25 or Merc 2 stroke (I wanted these engines due to the light weight), I am now considering a 25HP Honda (I have a great Honda mechanic). I am a bit concerned with the weight of the engine. Does anyone have experience with these engines and the resulting trim of the boat? If so can you comment (good or bad)?

Thanks

Stephen

Again...weight is not that much of a factor. I have a 240lb Suzuki 40 on mine and she is wonderfull. You will love the Honda.

The E-TEC 25 is another option (about the same weight; slightly larger displacement; a bit louder; a bit rougher running; bit better holeshot), but if you have a good Honda mechanic then that's probably the best bet.

I also forgot to mention that you can go to up the E-TEC 30 without any additional weight.

You could also choose a Honda 30 which is the same weight as the Honda 25.

If price is close I would go with the 30 then. Many times you can score a deal on a 25, especially a non tiller model. If 5hp costs $500+ I would go with a 25. 2 years ago I had lines on new 25 Suzukis for like $2250, the 30 was a grand more, the 40 was double...ouch!
