Any guidance on mounting a tiller 4-stroke Honda 25 to a notched '60s 13' cox'n whaler? 15" shaft, manual tilt, pull start.

Want to put as few holes in the transom as possible. It seems like it should be lifted above the rest position used with the clamps.

Thanks, Chris

The Honda outboard bracket has three upper mounting holes. The first hole is about 1.25" below the top of the transom, and each of the others is 1 inch lower. There is also a bottom slot on each side.

The cavitation plate is roughly 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch below the boats bottom at the stern as measured on the trailer.

There are now two holes in the transom from the previous outboard, but they are laid out slightly narrower than the holes in the outboard mount. They roughly correspond to the lowest mounting holes on the outboard when it is mounted using the two clamps (i.e., mount resting on the top of the transom).

Looks to me like it should be moved upwards approximately 1.5 inch. This would put the lowest mounting hole on the outboard bracket about 1.75" from the top of the transom.

Is that too close to the top of the transom? I will also fabricate a shim to fit on top of the transom to support the motor bracket.

Go up about 1.5" above the keel.
