I really like the look of Dan Firth's 18-Outrage CRUZ CONTROL, but, man, I'd almost be afraid to set my Molson down on that teak tackle cabinet--it looks like fine furniture!

A very beautiful boat, indeed!

What an Incredible boat! Dan, Just how did the teak restorer go about getting your wood to look like that?

I just saw Dan's Outrage pics, needless to say, the woodwork is by far the richest & most beautiful that I've seen. Great looking boat, Dan!

Dan beautiful Outrage, what exactly did you use and do to get you`re wood so beautiful. I am going to redo my Currituck and would like to do the same as you did, except maybee with brown mahogany stain. Regards-Jack Graner.

To refinish the wood, I removed all but the gunnels, sanded everything down to 200 grit sandpaper, plugged all the old holes with teak dowels and Resourcinal two part epoxy and then put four coats of Sikkens Cetol Marine. The Resourcinal is a dry catalyst/wet combination that is really good with the oily teak. It also is a very pleasing dark purplish brown which is nice against the teak grain. A sailboat friend had been raving about Cetol Marine's weatherability plus I like the color. It goes on really easy. For maintanence I am told that you just need to lightly sand and apply a new coat. Haven't had to do that yet. The wood was all done 4 years ago (except for the tackle cabinet; that's only a year old). I keep the boat covered.

Dan, your 18' is gorgeous. Best of show! Thanks for sharing the pics. I'll join you in singing the praises of Cetol Marine a bit more. I stripped, filled, sanded and refinished all the teak on my '85 O/R 18' this past winter with six coats of Cetol Marine. A month later, after it was well cured I compounded the finish lightly to bring up the lustre. Talk about pretty! I've now got some pictures but haven't gotten around to getting Jim's address to mail them to him.

Dan great job and the cabinet work is excellent --- very professional ---

For all you who might want to try it -- just so happens West has the Sikkens Cetol Marine on special until the end of the month -- save about $6 a quart!

I have an old issue of Practical Sailor which ran test on numerous wood finishes they said the Silkkens was an excellent easy finish to maintain.

Again Dan really a swell job --- Regards Tom

Son of a gun..... I JUST finished removing-cleaning-sanding-oiling-installing the Montauk. Now, after seeing your O/R I want to do it all over again to look like yours. Beautiful.

Thanks for the kind words. The 18 O/R is really a terrific boat. And fixing it up this way made it more of a family boat so my wife and daughter enjoy it too. But now I need a new project! I'm looking for a late 80's 22 Outrage with Whaler Drive and a superconsole.... any ideas? (I know there's one in Bellingham, Washington but it's not what I'm looking for.)

Regarding Sikkens Cetol Marine. Are you guys just using the Satin or are you using the Satin and then the Gloss as an overcoat?

Thanks,
Barry
