Nice work, Pete!

By the way, the weekend you mention taking the boat out in Lake Michigan in some big waves--I think that was the weekend we were up at White Lake just north of you.

Sounds like the only boats out there were Boston Whalers!

Wow!! What a tremendous boat. I am also interested in the details of the cuddy cabin-- also the electronics. I wish I had the ability to do this sort of work...

Perhaps you could post a picture of the cabin interior.

Great job.

Keith

Great work on the 25 Cuddy, Pete. Have been thinking about one of these for some time now, and your photos are pushing me over the edge. Just the thing for N/C 2001!!!! Thanks for posting these, Jim.

Pete, Having been messing around in boats almost my whole life, I can almost feel the hours and sweat you put into this boat, truly a labor of love. What a perfect example of a classic whaler. Thanks for sharing these photos with us and thanks for bringing this beauty back into the condition it deserves. I am in awe with some of the rare and unique older whalers that members of this forum own. This model has now risen to the top of my "want to own someday list". Thanks again, Kurt

Geez, Pete...

Just as I find myself totally absorbed and content with the fiddling I'm doing on my Outrage 22', you have to go and throw those photos up - talk about three-foot-itus! "Whale" of a job! I'll watch for you around Saugatuck; I put in a lot along Lake Michigan from St. Joe to Saug. (There's a 27' Outrage Cuddy in South Haven named, "Dolphin Rider" if memory serves, that is show-room pristine. Makes my heart pound just to look at it.)

Nice job, Pete.

For those interested, the Outrage Cuddy's were offered on the 22' & 25' hulls, and from 1983 - 1990. In 1989, a Cuddy model cost about $3000 more than the open Outrage, and they weigh 200 lbs more. The cabin interior is almost identical to the same size Revenge model. These models were discontinued in 1991 by the Reebock people, who did not want "Classic hull" cabin models competing against their new 21 & 23 Walkaround cabin models.

Pete, the foredeck topside style of your Outrage Cuddy remindes of the Coast Guard's double-ender rescue boats of the '60's. Your's is one fine boat! Don

Larry-

You mentioned 22' and 25' Outrage Cuddies; was it an oversight not mentioning a 27', or was what I saw in South Haven a different animal? (It was 27' long, had a Center Console and a Cuddy Cabin - it was a beauty, whatever it was - I've got some photos).

John: The 27 with the Cuddy Cabin was not called an "Outrage" until 1990, it's last year, so I didn't mention it. Prior to that, it was called a "27 Center Console Cuddy", and never carried the "Outrage" name. This is the boat, I believe, that BigZ has.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. It has been such a boost to read them. I have to admit that I am still getting used to owning this incredible boat. Each time a arrive at the dock and see her in the slip, I want to drop to my knees as in Wayne's World and start yelling, "I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy."

I feel it necessary to thank a couple of friends for their huge amount of help in the restoration process. For, without their help, there is no way that I could have accomplished this task. Randy Crum who made the facilities available for me to work on her and advised me every step of the way through the restoration process. He also was the mechanical mastermind who dealt with two sick engines and a blown lower unit and a whole host of other things, which were beyond my knowledge and skill.

I would also like to thank Derk Visser (Outraged) for all his incredible help and advice. I would also like to thank him for helping me keep my sanity as this project went way over schedule and budget. There were a few nights that I would arrive on his doorstep, after working on the boat for too many hours, tired, dirty, sore and frustrated. He kept reminding me that it would be worth it in the end. He sure was right. I also learned what BOAT stands for this spring and summer.

I would also like to thank our webmaster, jimh, for this great web site, which answered so many questions during the restoration process. Jim - I think you are right. We were out on the same day that you were boating out of Muskegon. Here's to Team Xtreem fall Whaling on Lake Michigan.

Kingfish - you are right. They did make a 27' version of the cuddy. Bigz's Amy's Whaler is a great example of one of these on page 4 of Cetacea.

Keith - The cabin is rather small. Just room for two 7 foot V-bunks and a Porte potty. I will send a picture to Jim to post. I plan on using it mostly for lockable storage. The electronics I installed were a Raytheon Cartographic GPS, An Interphase fish finder, Icom M45 marine Radio.

Thanks again to everybody and happy Whaling,

Peter Ferguson

Hey reliant,
Great job on your 25,With that stripe just
above the water line, you must have marked that while the whaler was in the water,
that line is perfect. That is a mighty
fine Whaler.

WOW! What a boat! Reliant, you are in for loads of fun on that vessel. What an incredible job. You really put some time in on that one. Are you planning to fish her, cruise, combination? You and Larry have two prime big Whalers. I've never been exposed to the Grand Ladies, but I'm interested now.

Peter --- magnificent --- I must add handsome to boot --- well executed -- functional and very practical --- with the full weather curtains you'll be unstoppable --- wish you the very best with your "lady" ---

Thank you for the kind words on Amy's Whaler --- we will be doing quite a bit of refurbishing over the winter and early spring --- thankfully nothing close to your gigantic under taking ---

Oh on the 27's --- there was the "27" which had a cabin/cuddy with helm --- a 27 full cabin with everything including the galley sink and of course the 27 cc cuddy --- which is actually pretty spartan like your 25 -- yet comfortable more so than with just canvas over your head ---

Regards --- Tom

Peter, Thanks for taking the time to post your work on this site! I am stationed in Korea until next summer when I plan to return to Fl and start looking for a 25 cuddy to restore. Your work and photos have been a great inspiration for me.

I have had the good fortune to have had two boston whalers. Most resently a 1973 currituck which I restored but had to sell prior to getting stationed in Tucson AZ (my last assignment. Korea is the price I had to pay to go back to Florida:-)

Any hind site I might find useful as I begin my quest? Wood rot under the floors is not something I had considered. Is this a normal problem?

thanks,

Paul

I'm in the process of restoring a 87 22 ft outrage and have a few questions:

What does it cost to remove the decks and replace the fuel tank?

How ozidized was the paint?

Was the leaning post with the boat when you purchased?

I am currently restoring a 1983 25 foot cuddy cabin. I have replaced the fuel tank, added a water tank where the toilet was and repaired the floors. I have documented my repairs with pictures. My boat should be ready in one month.
