Wow - fantastic shots! Just goes to show how beautiful the water can be year round. There is more to life than just summer, and enjoying all the seasons is key! Thanks for sharing those pictures! mattr |

Pete just sent three more shots, taken on Thanksgiving, and I have added them to the page, too. There are now 19 photographs of Lake Michigan boating in November, all taken from classic Boston Whaler boats! |

Seeing those pictures taken around Saugatuck & Holland MI, and reading the name Randy Crum, makes me think Randy MUST be related to the famous Tom Crum, owner of West Shore Marine in Saugutuck MI, long time Whaler Dealer. Back in 1989, when I decided to spring for a new 25 Outrage, I drove up to see Tom in Saugatuck one cold and snowing Saturday in February 1989. I had already shopped the Florida market for the best pricing on what I wanted, but thought it would be a lot more convenient to buy up here. So after giving me my quote, I told him that a Dealer in FL had given me a $5000 better price on the whole rig. After ranting and raving that these FL dealers were crazy, that the price was ridiculous, and didn't know what they were doing, he said "just wait and see, he'll be out of business in no time with prices like that", and that I'd better take it while I could. Six months after I picked up the boat in Delray Beach FL, the guy went out of business!! I guess Tom knew his Whaler pricing. Tom Crum and his West Shore Marine people have probably sold a lot of Classic Whalers in the Michigan area, and must be one of the reasons there are so many nice, used classic Whalers to be found around the state. If you've bought a used BW in Michigan, particularly with a Merc or Yamaha engine on it, there's a good chance it first was sold by West Shore. |

IHG, you are right,Randy is Tom`s son. I was lucky enough to be along with Pete on the ride most those pictures wre taken on! It`s a sad day for we Whaler fans in S.W.lower Mich. because as I speak the WEST SHORE Marina is in the process of being vacated. The property has been sold by the Crums, and Condos are soon to be built there. They have been a great place to find boats over the years, and very helpful with advice about Whalers. I and Reliant have purchased 5 boats between us in the last 3 years there.Randy will be setting up shop for out board repairs in the nearby Saugatuck-Douglas area. The end of an era! |

Thanks for the update. I'm really sorry to hear about the closing of West Shore Marine, a Classic Boston Whaler for such a long time, probably going back to the sixties. From what I could tell, Tom Crum and his West Shore Marine were an "institution" around the Douglas-Saugatuck area! I hope that Randy is successful in his new business venture. His 19 Outrage looks great, and we would all be anxious to hear how he likes the new 100HP Yamaha four stroke. I recently saw a boat up in Vancouver that had a pair of those installed. Looked great. |

While I really enjoy this site, I must admit to being irked by one particular picture: "Seven Footer" 1> Wave height is measured from TROUGH to MIDPOINT, not crest. Love the boat though! |

Sick Puppy - You are wrong on the wave height thing. I'll start a new topic in the General Section to explain why. See you over there! Dave |
