Folks -
I'm struggling to find appropriately sized gas tanks for my Sakonet and am intruiged by what appears to be a gas tank in the stern of his boat that contours around the engine well. It can be seen at the following url, half way down the page:

http://www.continuouswave.com/whaler/rendezvous/dayThree.html

Does anyone know if this is indeed his gas tank and, if so, where these can be purchased?

Thanks,
Justin

Bruce seems to have temporarily dissappeared from the Forum lately, so since I thoroughly inspected his Whaler at the Rendezvous, I'll try to help out here.

What you are seeing in the stern of his Whaler is some furniture grade custom mahogany work (Bruce is in the woodworking business) for a stern seat. I think he said something like 8 hand rubbed coats of satin varnish. I wish my dining room table looked this good!

Regarding gas tanks, he has used the standard Nauset/Sakonnet configuration of the twin 12 gallon tanks under the console. The problem is that these Tempo tanks are no longer made, and that the new, improved model is now 1-1/2" higher, and won't fit under the console. They increased the capacity to 13 gallons. So Bruce bought these new ones, and raised his console to accomodate the extra height.

For what it's worth, and if anybody is interested, I just happen to have a set of the original models, bought new in 1983, still in excellent condition, that I used on my 1971 Nauset. These fit under the console as is. If you have one of these models, and are desperate, send me an e-mail. I could be talked into parting with them.

Larry,
Are they the steel Tempos, or the plastic ones? If they are steel and in nice shape, I'd be interested.

The tanks are plastic, and are specifically sized to fit the BW mahogany console.

Larry, you`re profile doesn`t have you`re current e-mail address anymore?Anyway, I have tried to contact you a couple of times even on the post, I am interested in the tanks, would you e-mail me with a price, if you`re willing to sell them to me? Please respond. Regards-Jack Graner.

Larry,

Thanks for your reply. I knew Tempo had made a line of 13 gallon tanks specifically for the mahogony consoled Whalers, but finding them now is nearly impossible. Are your tanks indeed these 13 gallon Tempos? If so, I would love to make you an offer on them. I have the original metal 12 gallon tanks that came with my 1964 Sakonnet and, while they are still functional, I'd prefer to have plastic tanks. I too have tried (unsuccessfully) emailing you. My email address is jxs226@psu.edu

Hope they're still available!

Thanks,
Justin

The new Tempo 13's work with a different gas cap. I bought a low profile vented cap from a small engine supply house and they now fit although it is tight. Charles
