Jim,

[A] 1969 Boston Whaler catalog ...lists the Minot and the Katama models. Boston Whaler confirmed that my hull number is a 1969 Minot. This conflicts with the reference article that says the Katama/Minot was introduced in 1970. I guess this is what typically happens with history. As time passes, it starts to become more of an "average" than a exact representation of the facts. I bet Whaler would have kept better records if they had known they were building boats that were going to last more than 30 years!

Thanks for the input. I have amended the REFERENCE section to show 1969 as the introduction of the Katama and Minot models.

Sometimes there is confusion because the model year changes in late summer. In August of a particular year you can often buy a boat with the next year's model year.

If you have a 1969 catalogue, then we'll take that as gospel.

Jim,

I am gonna through another twist into this. My boat was shipped as a Minot fromt the factory in Rockland, Massachusetts on October 10, 1968. This means the Minot/Katama models were available in late 68 which goes along with your comment about the model year changing halfway through the calendar year. It is hard to believe my boat is 33 years old!

Guy's I can asure you that Whaler does indeed start their model year in July of the previous year. They shut down the factory for 2 weeks in July and when they reopen they are building the new models. I got caught by this in 1996 when I missed the last Outrage of 1996 and had to wait 5 weeks for a 1997 to be built. Which was delivered 8/96 as a 97 model.
