JimH - Outstanding narrative & pictures! Well done. I'd really love to play with the new boats, but then I look at my 1990 Revenge 22 WT and think, she's a good boat... and paid for! And sometimes when I see you guys having all the fun in the sun year round it almost makes me want to move south. But with 38F and rain in Juneau today, its springtime! Looking forward to the propeller article with the different props on Whale Lure. Should be good. JimP |

Thanks for sharing your wonderful trip Jim. I enjoyed the pictures immensely. I wish I had been there to share that with you guys. That 320 Outrage is my dream boat. With that much room the euro-transom doesn't seem like such a disadvantage. |

Jimh, Where was your boat? JAZZ |

Great report Jimh, "Whale Lure" is still one of my favorites. Thanks for putting many pictures of her in the article as well. Now I can add these to my collection I already have of her. LHG, again my compliments with your great boat. Erik |

Jimh, and LHG, AWESOME REPORT! Man o man, I think that would have been more fun than any Disney trip, any Celebrity Cruise... Great way to spend the weekend and man those boats looked great. You know as much as the new 320 looked and was pretty, I was still drawn to the WHALE LURE and the classics in the back... I can easily see my Son, with a new mercury on the back in 30 years driving my Montauk for a fun day with his kids.. the Comraderie was evident and the fun was clear. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the pictures. Lastly, I concur about the made in America and god bless our nation! LHG - Man you got a great looking boat!!! I never get tired of the pictures of it |

Very, very nice Jim. Once again you have made it like I was there with you guys. I can't wait to get my act back together and join back in the fun. Regards, Jay |

Ditto Janis' sentiment!!! By the way - I'm the well proportioned fellow leaning on the dock post in the picture of the Al-A-Buy, just in case anybody wanted to know:-). Jim - Great write up on the event. By the way, the bar is still open.... Al |

Great time! The dealer was very gracious and so were Whaler & Merc. The giveaways are worth triple what you pay($25) along with open bar & food.....I can't wait to do it again next year as well. Sarasota WILL be better....just because I will be there for 3 days instead of 1 :) Hope all will attend and check out the lovely west coast where the water is emerald green in color and so VERY different than the east coast. Actually Marine Max is in Lido Key I believe and just across the inlet from Long Boat Key. Next door is the "famous" Mote marine aquarium and The Pelican Man's bird sanctuary. Their neighbor is The Salty Dog restaurant which is water front and has a wonderfull menu & of course...BEER. There is a sandbar right inside the inlet where dozens of boats gather each weekend and the water is usually crystal clear. Read more in the rendezvous section...see ya'll there! |

Jimh, Great job Jim !!! The only better way to see it would have been to be there......and from those of us who couldn't be there I thank you !!! Pat |

This was a terrific event, and I think everyone had a great time. For me the highlights were meeting all of the CW attendees, and the Whaler and Mercury factory people. In particular, Stuart Marine Max, Will and Terri from Boston Whaler, and Robert from Mercury all deserve recognition for making this a great, well managed event. I didn't end up with a new Whaler purchase, nor any Mercury engine purchases, but Robert did convince me to pick up a pair of (not cheap) Merc Revolution-4 props. So all was not lost on my attendence! Robert said he was convinced he could get 64 MPH out of my 25 Outrage with 23" Rev-4 props, even with the top end killing radar arch! And I am sure that everybody involved REALLY enjoyed meeting and talking with JimH. Everyone could see that there actually IS just another ordinary Whaler fan, like all of the rest of us, behind this website! It was nice to see that a good, friendly relationship exists between CW and it's participants, and the people at Boston Whaler & Mercury. |

Jimh, nice article, thanks for sharing and putting some more faces with names. Were you able to convince the fine folks at Boston Whaler to put one of these fine events together for the Whaler fans living on the West Coast? |
| LHG |
Andy, from what I understand, the group of three Factory events this year in FL are the specific brainchild of Will Rogers, BW's marketing Rep for State of FL. He told me he came up with the idea and requested the factory funding. So I think your CA rep would have to arrange a similar program with Management's/Dealership interest, but it is not evidently a country-wide program. |

Oh! and Karin and I aren't new friends; I've worked with her for about 4 years now or various projects including the brag boards for all new models and dealer meeting signage. This was just our first event "off-shore" together...She's alot of fun to work with.... Janis |

Janis--You and Karrin are now my new friends! |

Great Article Jim, I'm a new member, so really enjoying exploring the site. I'm looking for a project boat anywhere in the SE. Really like the old models that take me back to when I first fell in love w/ Whalers enjoying the Detroit River with my uncle in the 60's.Still have his old pennants and they're looking for a new home on the water! Anyway, great work on this amazing site. I've never come across such a wonderful assembly of data, helpful articles and teriffic pictures! I'm an avid flyfisherman and the proud owner of a Chesapeake Light Craft Oxford pram, that I built from a kit. The little 7 footer has worked well as a stable casting platform. But, Having just moved to Tampa, I'm learning to adept my freshwater thinking to saltwater and that includes trying to find a suitable Whaler to expand my fishing and exploring horizons. A question: Is the upcoming event in Sarasota open to folks looking to buy a Whaler? Thanks again for a great site, I'm looking forward to learning as I go! |

Why do you think Marine-max sponsors it? They don't sell classics but maybe they have a used one or somebody attending the event may have theirs for sale.....ahem....for the right price of course :) |
| jimh |
Steve--Welcome. To stray off topic for a second, you ought to hunt down a special model of Boston Whaler, the CROSS TACKLE, which they made in limited numbers. It was designed for fly-fishing! There was a special bow railing with a little deck to stand and cast from. Also, even more rare, there was a special edition of the CROSS TACKLE that came in a tan and green color scheme, I think it was an "Orvis Edition" or something like that. That would be the Boston Whaler for you. Go to the next event in Sarasota and meet the folks. You'll have a good time and see all the boats, too. Again, we had a wonderful time in Stuart, and the three days just flew by. I keep thinking it would have been nice to spend more time talking with folks we met down there, getting to know everyone better, but somehow there wasn't enough time for yacking--we had to do some boating, too. |

Whaler has posted their own photo's of the event including some of Jim. It's good to know that someone was taking photo's of him while he was taking photo's of the event. [ur]http://tinyurl.com/6qlrs[/url] |

Thanks for the link Kamie. Great! Now I have some more "Whale Lure" pics to add to my collection. (for my personal coffee table book?) Larry, are you sure you didn't sell Whale Lure to JimH back then? You do still have her don't you? Erik |

NICE PICTURES OF THE 25 OUTRAGE. I JUST RECENTLY BOUGHT A COMPLETLY RESTORED 1987 25' OUTRAGE THE RADAR ARCH WOULD BE A NICE ADDITION. ANY IDEAS ON WHERE TO BUY ONE FOR A WHALER LIKE MINE OR IS IT ALL CUSTOM WORK? ALSO NEED A BOW DODGER ANY SUGGESTIONS? THANKS BRENDAN |
| LHG |
Race - I would recommend Mills Canvas, Whaler's original supplier, for a "bow dodger", which they call a Forward Shelter. I think they are about $900. See Cetacea page 1 for photo of the shelter, and also Cetacea Pages 8 and 11 for other photos of the boat. More exist in the Rendezvous section, and Sail Logs section of CW, which show all of the canvas items availble for the boat from Mills. As for the radar arch, it was custom made for the boat in 1991, when boat was 2 years old, by Boston Whaler's 1991 factory supplier of arches for the 23 Walkaround, in Jacksonville FL. Using the photos here, and particularly on whaler.com. Factory events, photos for Stuart FL, a local fabricator should be able to put a similar one together for you. Cost at the time was about $2500 installed, including rod holders, bracing for outrigger holders and spreader lights |
