Yes, typically there is a fuse under the cowling of most outboard motors which protects against over-current in branch circuits from the main battery cable.

Mercury puts a 20 amp fuse on both the starter circuit and the power trim. Aways carry a spare fuse this size on board.

On an Opti, you'll find several more 20 amp fuses under the cowl for the injectors and ECU too. BillS

Pull the cover off and look. On my 96ish 90 HP Evinrude (same basic motor), it's real obvious with the cover off, and there's even a spare fuse.
