On the port side of my engine compartment, there are mounting screw holes and an imprint of a "box" in the sound insulation. There is an electrical lead that comes from the factory wiring harness that is hanging right where that missing "box" was located. Does anyone have an idea of what was once there? I assume that it was something from the factory because of the lead from the wrapped factory harness.

It sounds like the imprint is from a raw water stainer. There is a lead (I think black) that comes off the wire harness neat the front port side that is not used. If you have a stainer someone may have moved it,if not you should add one asap.

Thanks for the reply, Larry. There is a strainer, but it is on the starboard side mounted about even with the top of the engine. I wonder what that "extra" lead wire was intended for?
