We just got a sweet late 70s 13 with 1992 Yam 40. I am wondering if I should install an main power switch on this boat? It has two pull switches on the dash - nav lights and bilge, fish finder direct wired to terminal block, tilt on throttle. I guess the system is always hot. Should I install a shut off for the main power buss? Where is best to locate it?

Necessity of Battery Switch

for discussion about your inquiry regarding whether or not you should install a main battery switch.

The best place to locate a battery main disconnect is as close to the battery as possible. This prevents long runs of unprotected high-current capacity cable.

Thanks Jim, I saw that thread. I just don't know what to get and where to mount - one of those red switches? I assume best mounting is behind the seat or frame but not sure.

Thanks for your help and hard work on the site.
