I have a Furuno 600L [possibly a FCV 600L] color fish finder, and I would like to display NMEA data [from a hand held GPS receiver] such as Magellan Explorist 500 or Garmin 76CS handheld. Is there a way to do this? Which handheld is better? I'm planning loading the BlueNav or similar Garmin chart add-ons on whichever unit I get.

NMEA-0183 connections to the Furuno FCV-600L are explained in the installation manual:
The fishfinder can accept and display the following data input:
as contained in NMEA sentences RMA, RMB, RMC, BWC, GLL, MTW, VTG, VHW, and XTE.
The details of the connector are shown in the manual (linked above).
The Garmin 76CS apparently has a NMEA-0183 output and could provide that data.
This will not display the chart plot or digital cartography from the handheld onto the fishfinder display.

I also just got a response from Furuno to see if a Magellan XL would interface:
Here are the specs for the FCV600L input/output data. The NMEA versions for the two pieces of equipment are compatible and should work with no problems.
Here are the FCV600L specs:
NMEA is a across-the-board standard. Although I have not seen this particular unit hooked up to a FCV600L, I have seen many other manufacturer’s hand held’s hooked up to our equipment and work properly.
Purchase our Licensed Version- which adds many more features!
