Behind the helm I have what I think is a positive bar, and a negative bar. Hooked to the positive bar are 5 or so fuses. Are you suppose to use these for hooking up electronics like a radio? I would have 2 fuses then, one inline and the one I am hooked to, protecting the radio. The bar is hot any time you have a battery on.

There are push pull swithces also that are hooked to the positive bar, by passing the fuses. These turn on the running lights, wiper, fuel guage, and I used one to hook up the GPS/sonar per manufacturer recomendation for salt water use. The only thing hooked to the end of one of the fuses was the radio I just disconnected.

John, I have the same setup in my 1987 Revenge, the proper way to use the setup is that everything (+) comes of the end of a fuse, the push pull switches should be fed from the end of the fuse also, bypassing the fuses, leaves your circuits protected at the battery feed level , which could allow a high current short or load to ruin your wiring, your boat and your day! Sounds like your boat has had several "electricians" working on her over the years, the setup is sound if wired correctly. You can eliminate the in line fuse holders and put your fuses on the positive bus bar and clean up the wiring a bit. There is no benefit in having two fuses in series protecting a circuit and the drawback is having twice as many connections with twice as many points of possible failure. It would just be nice if that bus bar would be easier to reach from the cabin side!....Jack

That is wierd, I would have assumed that the basic wiring, like the running lights would have been done in the factory. Right now the power for the running light switch comes from the bar, not a fuse. Same with the fuel guage. So I got 5 fuses to nowhere and power to everything just off the bar.

What is also wierd is that there is a differnt amp fuse in each holder with nothing hooked up to them. Well, at least it is a little easier to work on them with the cabinet removed. Man, I hate to do wiring. John

On my Outrage, running lights and such are protected by a fuse that is in a small twist out enclosure just below the push-pull switch. It looks like a small black knob. I'd look around and see if your boat has a similar switch panel.

Nope, not there. I know what you mean, the bilge pump switch has one. It looks like the running lights and the fuel guage are not protected by a fuse. All of the other stuff running either hot off the bar or by a switch has an in line fuse. The whole thing needs to be redone. A good project for next winter. John

Nope, I am never wrong, I thought I was once but I was mistaken. The only fuses are behind the dash. The pull switches are not protected by fuses. John
