I'm not sure my [Evinrude model year 2000 ignition switch] is good. It works but I get fluctuations on my [SystemCheck tachometer] on ocassion, and a popping sound exhaust. I THINK the ignition is cutting out, but, because [it's] electronic, it happens so fast that one doesn't feel power loss. The switch is a six pin type OFF-START-RUN. There is continunity from BAT to SOL and BAT to RUN. But no continunity on the other three in any position---[Supply a wiring diagram] for 2000 Evinrude Ficht?

Does it also push in? Carburtor OMC engines were push-to-prime. When the switch is on, pushing connects the B & C terminals. I can see OMC staying with the same switch for the FICHTs.

The two M terminals should show continuity when OFF.

I'd be looking under the cowling for your problem. Tach is driven by the alternator.

I do not recall seeing a diagram showing how the switch is constructed, but you can deduce its function from the wiring associated with it.

It the switch is intermittent and cuts off the battery voltage when in the ON position, it would cause the engine to loose ignition as you have described.

On a electro-mechanical device like a switch, a good way to see if it is intermittent is to wiggle it.
