Hello, after extensive troubleshooting I have come up with bad ignition switch on my 81 evinrude 50hp. Now I just need to know if this is True or False.
It keeps popping the internal AGA20A fuse upon switch play/touch. I took a DVOM and tested between the terminals that house the fuse (jumper). I got 12.8v ON, 12.8v START, and 12.8v OFF (happens when shaking/handling key tumbler, not so much the wires in OFF pos). Also I tested resistance over all positions of switch ON/OFF/START all show a measurable amount (done between red/blue and negative posts on switch, with wires installed (backprobe). This has lead me to believe bad switch.
If I were to get a switch and old switch is 5 post with seperate choke toggle switch, would a 6 post with push choke "bolt up" ok? the control unit is a Johnson HydroElectric if this helps at all.
thanks in advance, mike
