I would like to replace my old fish finder for under $750. Advise me whether I can be better off by choosing Humminbird or Furuno. I prefer large screen, good pixel and easy to use. Thanks in advance.

A friend has the new Humminbird 787. He purchased the optional side scanning quadra beam transducer ($200) which gives a faux side scanning mode The Humminbird 787 has a high pixel count and a clear screen. They are going just under $700 dollars with the standard dual frequency transducer. I like the Humminbird 787 but I just bought a 987c (just under $2,000), but I have not had it on the water yet. We use them mostly for diving. Both my friend and I are divers, but we fish also (no spearfishing--just regular). If hungry I might spear a legal fish but it is rare. Anyways, is 787 is very nice, I probably should have just gotten that. My wife would be much happier with me.

Best regard,
