I'm thinking of freeing up some space on my console by replacing my existing dedicated depth sounder. One option is to ditch the dedicated unit and replace it with a NMEA transducer that can be read on my existing Garmin GPS. [For those unfamiliar with what I'm refering to, here's an example: ]

Does anyone have any experience with or recommendations of specific NMEA depth transducers?

What Garmin GPS? Do you know that will do anything with
those NMEA sentences?

172. It is able to display a variety of NMEA data, including depth.

I have recently installed a Lowrance LMF-200 and am now on the search for NMEA 2000 'smart' depth transducer that I can use with that unit? By 'smart' I mean a transducer that is essentially a black box with only power and NMEA 2000 connections?

Does anyone manufacture the equivalent of a 'smart' or black-box NMEA 2000 depth sounder?

Airmar and Maretron make NMEA-2000 "smart" transducers which give SONAR depth readings.

Jimh: Thanks.

Clarification: I need a transom mount model. Unfortunately, neither of those companies offer transom mount NMEA 2000 depth or sonar transducers. Airmar has hinted that they wholesale some transom mount units to boat manufacturers but they are not offering them to the general public.

I think Bombardier has one listed at one time, but I don't know if it is still available. It was most likely a private-label from another manufacturer.

Thanks. It looks like BRP part 763440 (transom mount triducer) is exactly what I need and is still available.

FYI: Many of the i-Command components appear to be private-label versions manufactured by Lowrance.

Sounds good. Let us know if you can actually get your hands on one, and, then, how well it works.
