Westerbeke Corporation has introduced NMEA 2000 networked diesel generators under the designator D-NETTM. By using NMEA-2000 network integration these latest Westerbeke digital generators can link a full array of certified controls, instruments, navigation systems and displays along a single cable.

The company says that "boat builders (and boat owners) using Westerbeke’s D-NETTM diesel generators, factory fitted with a NMEA 2000 data bus, can achieve far more efficient boat wiring, since all certified NMEA 2000 components can “plug into” a single cable. This cable not only supplies their power but integrates all onboard data communication. That reduces cost, weight, and use of space while simplifying and speeding installation of most electronic components; it also removes the need for and complexity of running bundles of wiring throughout a boat."
