I've got a 1981 Outrage 24 center console, same as the Outrage 25. I currently have a Furuno fishfinder with a transom mount transducer, but I want to replace it with a thru-hull transducer. I have a single Merc 225-HP outboard. Is it possible to do this? What are some useful tips? Where would be the best location?
Thanks
Rick

This is covered in the owner's manual. If you don't have a copy I have created an on-line version of it:

I just bought a Furuno combo unit for my boat and I decided to stick the Airmar P66 transom mount because of the complexities of installing a thru-hull transducer.

There is a good explanation of how to install a thru-hull transducer into a vessel with a cored hull on the Airmar website. Airmar is the company that makes Furuno transducers.

You may want to check out the new Airmar tilted element transducer if you decide to go with a thru-hull. There's no fairing block required.

Contrary to jimh's Owners Manual the Airmar instructions specifically mention the starboard side for mounting a transom mount ducer.

I am afraid I cannot accept credit for recommendations in the Boston Whaler owner's manual. I have reproduced it in an on-line version. I did not write it.

If you are in disagreement with the recommendations of the Boston Whaler owner's manual, it is inappropriate to imply that they are my recommendations. They are the recommendations of the Boston Whaler company.

My two post 2000 model year Whalers had transducer mount areas in their hulls.
This is a place where the hull is not cored, but solid fiberglass and designed by the factory for a place to mount thru hull transducers and other thru hull fittings.
I agree, installing a thru hull in a cored hull is tricky and probably not worth the trouble. However, if your Whaler has a transducer mount area it is worth it to install a thru hull as fish finder performance will be improved.

With all due respect jimh, there is nothing on the "SONAR Transducers" reference page that indicates that you reproduced a copy of the Whaler owner’s manual. For that reason I assumed it was your work.
