Hi everybody, I am having troubles with my 1979 Mercury 150-HP V6 stator. I know that the part number of this stator is the 398-5454-a7, but lots of sellers told me that they are discontinued parts. So they recomended to me part number 398-5454-a6. Is this the same part? Or is this a diferent stator for a diferent motor model? I know that there are 9-ampere and 16-ampere stators. I really do not know what kind of stator is the original in my motor. I have six wires in my original stator, and the new one have seven wires. The black wire is the diferent wire between the two models. Please help me.

I think you have a 9 amp stator. I would also check here for the replacement parts.

CDI prices are usually less than Mercury prices.

I would also go to for Mercury tech issues. There is a decent knowledge base here, but the S&F site is better for Merc specific tech.

If this motor is on a Whaler I would investigate switching to a 40 amp charging system. This will allow you to run electronics, lights and such and not run your battery down.

phatwhaler out.
