I have a 1986 150HP Evinrude motor but I do not have the ignition key to the switch. Don't ask!
I tried to get a new ignition switch (push to choke) to fit it but all the replacement 6 terminal switches are different to the one I have.
The one I have has the terminals labled as
The new ones have the terminals lables as
Only difference is the I and A. Is that that new labeling?
On the instruction pack the I is for the ignition wire.
Could someone please help out here?

The letters I (ignition) and A (accessory) are the same terminal on outboard switches and that is where the solid colored purple wire connects.

Thanks for that, I have another question in relation to the purple wires.
I have 2 sets. The one that is connected to A is 2 purple wires and the other is a single purple wire connected to ? hmm have to check again. But should there be 2 sets of purple wire?

There is also a purple (violet) wire with a white stripe, that is the "choke" wire and goes to the C terminal.

You might also try a Johnnyrude dealer - most outboard ignition switches are made with an embarassingly small number of unique key patterns. They usually have a ring of stock keys on hand and may have one that works.

I have a Evinrude switch with the key. It came off a late eighties evinrude 70hp. The terminals are labeled the same as your first set. It is the push to choke type and was working perfectly when I changed to a new throttle box that came with a new switch and key in place.
The switch and key are yours if you want them. Let me know and we can talk about where to ship. No charge for any of it.

Awesome, I am stoked it will get put to use. I hope it is the right one and works good for you. Check out the article Jimh is talking about in the previous post. Funny that that article came at the same time as you were looking for a switch.
