Two manufacturers have or showed innovative digital audio recorder devices intended to be used with communication radios. These devices record received audio and permit it to be replayed on demand. Such a device seems like a great idea. I have often heard some traffic on my VHF Marine radio and failed to hear it clearly. With a digital replay recorder, the previous audio could be played back for review.

One of these devices is integrated into the radio itself. COBRA showed such a VHF Marine radio, both a handheld and a fixed mount radio, at a recent trade show. Watch the video demonstration

Another application for this technology is to incorporate it into an external speaker. This will work with just about any radio source (or audio source). This product is currently available. See:

They also have a demonstration video.

When you get real motors on your boat, you won't need such things.

I am not sure how the motors that are on my boat affect my interest in this device. Can you explain?
