Thanks for the demonstration of the XM weather feature for your Garmin unit.

I have the salt water version of your unit, the 478, but have not subscribed to the XM weather data.

I am an XM radio subscriber already. I find that the $50 initiation fee along with the $30 monthly subscription ($50/month for the deluxe) fee not worth it for me. If it's raining I usually won't go off shore far enough to worry about a storm sneaking up on me. Plus I'd only use the feature for 3 months out of the year.

If it was only $30/month for the months I would use (October, November and December) I'd probably get it.

Actually Warren, XM does permit de-activating their weather service for a specified periods. I know of many who de-activcate their subscriptions over the the winter months. It's you choice. Happy New Year!

I'll check into it for next year, I'm done with saltwater until April. Hopefully XM will lower the rates for their weather service.

The Sea Surface Temperature (SST) feature could be quite helpful in locating tuna.

Happy New Year,

Warren

I bought the Garmin 276C. It does not have the weather feature. I didn't think it was worth the extra money for the weather feature. There is enough early weather warning on VHF since I don't venture more than 10 miles off the coast. The 276C uses the same cartography.

Tom

How long does it take your unit to change from chart plotter to weather plotter?

Would you change from chart to weather every 10-15 minutes?

Thanks for doing the video.

It does both simultaneously ... in other words the weather displays over the marine charts. You have the best of both worlds. You navigate while watch the weather.
