I have a 88-SPL Johnson tilt and trim motor that won't run. It gets fire on either wire on either signal up/down from the console switch, but no noice or action from the motor. What can be done. I am thinking it is the motor. Has anyone else had this problem?

Apply 12 volts to the two wires coming directly from the trim motor and see if you get a response. If you do, reverse the power leads and see if you get an opposite response. if you do than you have issue with other than your trim motor.

Hope this helps,

Trim motor controls are relatively simple electrical circuits. The remote buttons control relays, and the relays control the motor. You can use simple electrical troubleshooting techniques to investigate:

If you have voltage at the motor and it does not operate, the motor is probably defective.

The wires coming from the trim motor go to a plug under the engine cover. Unplug it and use a jumper wire, green goes down and blue goes up. If you get no response check your motor's ground, if your ground is good then you need a new trim motor.
