Humminbird has two new sidescan units:

The smaller unit is the 797c2 SI Combo. Looks like $999 street price. 150' depth.

The bigger unit is the 997c2 SI Combo andreplaces the 987.
Sightly bigger screen, 150' depth. Not on h'bird's website but:

They both have 16-channel GPS receivers, so probably SIRFSTAR
III receivers (this is good for those who aren't on open
water, no diff on open water).

I'm very interested in the smaller one.

Mmmm, Side-scan... That unit seems to paint as nice a picture as a tow fish high-end side scanning device for a bargain price. Granted, I'd like to see what a car tire looks like at 30' depth and 45' off to the side to see whether it would make a good search device. Certainly looks cool.

When you buying one Chuck? I'd like to hear first hand how it works for locating new dive sites.

They are both vaporware at this point, but the smaller one
looks real close (there's a PDF of the manual on h'bird's
website). I've a feeling they are going to sell a BUNCH of
them and it may be a while before we see the prices comes
down.

Chuck, I'll see what I can locate at the Miami International Boat Show in February. I know you hate it that we get to see all the new and exciting stuff first, but if they have a manual for it online already, they might just have a functioning demo model at the show.

I'm seeing a street price of $876.84 Although a little high $ for a fish finder, when you consider it's GPS capabilities, the combo unit price is pretty reasonable for what it appears you get. I still want to touch one...
