I understand that I need to get an Maritime Mobile Service Identifier (MMSI) for my DSC VHF transceiver. How do I do this? Is the [Maritime Mobile Service Identifier] associated with a person or a radio? Stated another way, I have two boats with DSC radios. Do I need two MMSI's or do I set both to the same MMSI?

You will need an MMSI number for each boat. Registration is free and takes only a few minutes. Here is where you can get your MMSI: http://www.boatus.com/mmsi/default.asp
Be careful entering them into your VHF's because you normally will be allowed only two chances to do this. Do you have DSC capable GPS and are they already wired to your radios?
Good luck!

You can get your MMSI by going to the BoatUS website below. The number is registered to you and not your radio so it may be used on multiply devices such as DSC VHF, EPIRB, PLB, AIS System.

A MMSI is a "ship station identity." It identifies the vessel.

If a person owns two vessels, he needs an MMSI for each vessel.

If a vessel has several radios, they all use the same MMSI.
