I have an older Garmin 180 and need a Buzzards Bay chip, Chart MGUS205SS. I've looked in all the usual places Google search, craigslist, eBay, etc to no avail.[Seeks other sources] where I can find this particular chart. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,

Keep searching ebay or craig's list, it's your only hope.

I sure hope that is not all I have to look into...
Both venues are devoid of them.

How bad do you need it? Are you looking strictly for a "used" chip, or will a new one do? The reason I ask is that if I remember right, Defender Marine, down here in Waterford CT, has a computer that can burn any Garmin mapset to a chip...

Don't know what the cost is. I thin they still have the blank Micro G chips.

They do show up on ebay, you have to keep looking. There is one on there now but it's just south of the one you are looking for.

I have an email alert set on eBay for any micro g chart that comes up. I guess I'll just wait it out.

The one up now is for Long Island. That's several charts down from Buzzards Bay.

Each chip does not cover much for area....

Patience...I have same unit and with time I have been able to acquire Cape Cod and Florida chips where I do my boating in the usual haunts. A real pain for me, because I move every three years in my career.
JayR posted 07-14-2007 10:39 AM ET (US)     Profile for JayR  Send Email to JayR
I was fortunate enough to acquire a chip for Offshore Tampa - Key West with the unit and I now have it on eBay as I do not need it.

Another one in that area area just sold for $120 so my fingers are crossed.

Do the wanted listings on eBay generate any results? I may try that.

I really need a chip for the Elizabeth Islands and Buzzards Bay...... There must be a ton of these sitting in closets as so many have upgrade their GPS units.

You should also keep an eye on sales of 180's as some folks sell the chips with the units. If you find one from the right area offer to purchase the chip separately.

Thanks kamie... I am doing that as well. The 180 and the 185 both used the micro G charts.

Thanks.

I just got close to $90 for the Key West chip. That makes the Garmin quite an inexpensive unit for me as I paid $150 for it.

I find the 180 to be very accurate for an older unit. I sure hope I can find the Buzzard Bay chart soon.

I love my 180. The only thing that I am struggling with now is the internal battery had died. Garmin can no longer supply the internal battery.

I'll bet there are other sources for that internal battery.
Try BatteriesPlus.

The battery is note quite standard, it's designed to be soldered to the circuit board. I have found a couple of online suppliers but I will check closer to home to see if I can locate someone.

Boy am I ever getting frustrated!!!!
I've searched every possible place to no avail.

I suppose that I will find one eventually but the season is NOW and I am in need of finding some rock piles I would like to fish. So far, trying to locate them with my charts 1st and then the GPS has proven futile. Jimh had trouble find a sunken ship he detailed in a post recently. I can now relate... Three rocks in the middle of nowhere are beyond my capabilities.

BTW... chart MGUS182SL would be the chart of my choice if anyone happens to find one.

Thanks in advance...
Jason

Why did Garmin provide an internal battery on solder board when the unit is 12V powered from boat house circuit?

Love my 180, but no idea when battery will go out. I even bought a spare unit with the Cape Cod chip for cannibalization for just such an outcome.

JayR posted 07-29-2007 12:00 PM ET (US)     Profile for JayR  Send Email to JayR
Well, sell me the chip!

Many Gamins have the soldered in battery. I agree, bad idea.
I keep mine plugged in to keep the internal battery charged and that damned message "internal battery low" off the screen.

Sell that chip to me!!!!!!!!

kamie posted 07-29-2007 06:48 PM ET (US)     Profile for kamie  Send Email to kamie
The internal battery is fairly simple to sodder on. I just replaced mine. I am on the road but will post a link to the battery supplier. The batteries are under $2 each. It is so nice to have all the settings saved.

Put it on eBay....
Many of them sell for a good price. They are not listed often.
Micro G Charts are even more rare.... They are only used in the 180 and 185 units.

actually the g-chips came out of a 230 AND WORK IN MY 235. I WAS TOLD BY GARMIN THESE WILL WORK IN ALMOST EVERY OLDER UNIT OUT THERE. HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK THEY WOULD GO FOR ON E-BAY? I HAVE THREE OF THEM BUT AM SELLING TWO. I'D RATHER SELL LOCALLY, AND WITH OUT THOSE FEES. I WILL TRY CRAIGS LIST FIRST DEVOCEAN

Yes, you have the "G Chip".... It is much more widely used and available.

I started this thread in hopes of finding a MICRO G Chart. Again, only used in the 180 and 185 units.

As for you more easily obtained G charts value, look at expired eBay auctions for a good idea to value. Note: location has a lot to do with price. Florida chips are of greater need due to supply and demand where a chip for say Maine.... well, not so many need there....

Check out my post in the sale section for a Garmin 192C it has all the charts for not much more than a few micro chips.

Please keep me in mind.....

The use of GARMIN of their proprietary chart cartography makes me leery of buying their chart plotters. You may find yourself in a situation like this where the chart plotter is still useful but no cartography is available. I think it is a good idea to consider this when investing in a chart plotter.

The C-Map system, for example, is provided by an independent company whose cartography is used by many manufacturers of chart plotter devices. This may tend to make the cartography more widely available and have a longer life span than cartography produced only by single GPS maker for a single proprietary unit or model.

I bought this Garmin 180 as a back up and also to hold me over until I can afford the one I really want. I paid $160 for it and resold the Key West chip in it for $90.
So it only cost me $70.... If I can find the Cape chip it would be great. If not, it's a back up for the one I use now and for the new one that will replace it.

Sure wish the Humminbird 979c was NMEA 2000 compliant

Bump....

Still interested in the Cape chip but not willing to pay $125.....

$75 is all it is worth to me.

New units with installed Navionics bundles are far more cost effective...

I'll pick it up tomorrow evening.

I bought the 180 as a hold over until I buy the Humminbird 979 side scanner.

I'm quite pleased with it. I'm in it it for a little over $100 including the chip. What a deal!!!!

Patience paid off on this one.

It's home and came in the original package. I'm glad I waited and did not jump at the one offered above.

I still have plenty of time to use it this season as well. I had figured it would take a winter purchase to finally get my hands on one.

As soon as the wind dies off, I'm off to check it out around Cuttyhunk.
