Hi
I want to connect my Garmin GPSMAP298 to my RayMarine 54E
VHF/DSC

In the GARMIN Book they show
NMEA Out (Blue)
NMEA In (Brown)
Ground Black

The RayMarine book shows

GPS
NMEA Out + to GPS + Yellow
NMEA Out - to GPS - Green

Has anyone done these connections.

Also the RayMarine VHF/DSC has a water resistant socket

Where can I get the corresponding Male plug to put on the Garmin Cables.

Thanks in advance

Wire GPS NMEA OUT to VHF NMEA +. Whre VHF NMEA - to Ground.

Dunno about the connector. It should have come with the
Radio. Check with RayMarine.

Hi Chuck

I contacted my RayMarine dealer where I got the VHF/DSC and sure enough they had left the female socket and wiring tail out of the box.

Anyway now I have that it does not look so ominous.

I just have to decide if I connect the blue or brown NMEA cable. The book says the blue but on another forum a guy reckons he had to switch over to the brown to get it to work.

Anyway no big deal as I will set it all up and test before installing it

Howdy, I would assume you are trying to put GPS data into your Ray 54E radio. If this is true, then the hook-up would be as follows:

GARMIN GPS Connections Ray 54E Connections

NMEA OUT (blue wire) to GPS+ (yellow wire)
Ground (black wire) to GPS- (green wire)

I found this link to the owner's manual for the Ray 54E radio. View chapter 2.6 for picture of the hook-up.

Good luck

Hello again, This is another post to clarify the wire connections that I stated in my previous post.

GPSMAP 298 Connections______to_______Ray 54E Connections

NMEA Out (blue wire)________to_______GPS+ (yellow wire)
Ground (black wire)_________to_______GPS- (green wire)

I found the link to the Garmin unit's owner's manual and on page 92 is another picture of the correct hook-up.

Thanks yes those were the connections. I just wish GARMIN had run the cables for about 12" before splitting the transducer cabling off. then I could have got away with just one hole and one stainless steel gland in the console for the cables

It would have made for a much neater look
