I have been thinking about a hand held GPS for some time, looked at a few, catalogues etc but have never seen a good demonstration of the several brands and options.

Question: is there somewhere in Mich where I can go to see several brands of handhelds where the sales person(s) know what the hell they are talking about? I will Drive!!! for this opportunity. I will drive to Chicago - no, I take that back unless I have a reason to go there.

Your advice is welcomed greatly.

Plan is to use for 13 and road trips.

Moved to Marketplace.

How about Bass Pro Shops? There's one in Detroit. I've always found most of their staff knowledgeable and helpfull. They have quite a few models listed online.

Good one Sponge - we have a Cabella's in SE Mich and I hear rumors about Cabella's coming to Grand Rapids. I appreciate your recommendation. I just have never had a salesperson demo GPS units to any degree of expertise.

West Marine and Boater's World both have large displays of their equipment and it's all usually powered on so you can play with it. If it's not already powered on, they'll power it on if you ask. I'm sure they have the manuals for the display units available also. If not, you can probably download them at home, then go back to the store.
