I installed a Lowrance 525 on my boat and the problem is that I get a message on the screen which says that the GPS module is not responding or is not recognized.

Anyone ever encounter this problem on a Lowrance 525? If so, what was the cause?

Any feedback will be appreciated, thanks.

LOWRANCE has excellent technical support. I encourage you to contact them for help in resolving this problem.

I get this message with my LMS332c occasionally when I first turn it on. Power cycling the NMEA bus always works. I never had any problems once communication with the antenna was established.

Thanks for the responses. I read the manual carefully and figured out what it was. Like a lot of things, it was simple once I figured it out.

I made a mistake in the installation.

The NMEA 2000 cable has to be connected to the same power source as the power cable. The NMEA cable has a shield wire, a red wire and a black wire. The shield and black wire go to negative post of the battery. The red wire has an inline 3 amp fuse and goes to the positive battery post.

The power cable has a red wire, a black wire and a white wire which is unused. The red wire has an inline 3 amp fuse and goes to positive battery post. The black wire goes to negative battery post.

I misunderstood a statement in the manual to mean that both cables should not be powered at the same time (they meant should not be powered from different power sources) and I left the fuse out of the NMEA 2000 power cable. I simply installed the fuse and it worked.

Moral of the story: Read carefully and employ logic!

Yup, the fuse will help :-). None-the-less I still get this error on occasion with my prior generation unit. I hope Lowrance fixed the issue on your newer model.
