Is a Garmin 498 readable with polarized sunglasses? [Seeks opinions from users of the Garmin 498.]

I have one with an internal antenna. Typical user friendly Garmin functionality. It is readable with the polarized glasses that I have.

Like all GPS/Sounders, the screen is rather small when using both the GPS and sounder functions together. It was a good value purchase.

I have a 492 (same thing without sounder function) and it's perfectly readable with polarized shades.

It's an amazingly good screen in bright sunlight. Far better than my old GpsMap 276.

I don't have polarized sunglasses but I do have an anti-glare coating. One of my concerns when I went to the Garmin 498 (or any other color GPS) was visibility in bright sunlight. 99% of my time boating is with the bimini down, so there is no protection for the center console.

I have to say I am pretty impressed with the visibility and resolution of the 498, in all conditions to date.

If you buy it, and it starts to intermittently power down, replace the cheap, inline fuse holder with a good rubberized one. Garmnin will acknowledge many a unit had problems with the fuse holder.
