I have a 2003 Mercury 90-HP four-stroke. Normally the boat runs great but now I can't even turn the key to start the engine. It seems stuck and won't turn or even click one position.

So far I've checked to see if the shifter is in neutral and it is. I've already shifted it a couple of times and put it back in neutral but the key still won't turn.

Please help me.

As far as I know, there is no mechanical interlock between the ignition key and the remote throttle and shift controls. There is an electrical interlock which suppresses cranking if the remote throttle and shift is not in neutral. Your problem sounds like a mechanical problem in the key ignition switch.

If you do some searching you will find that vintage Merc
switch has lots of problem. A buddy of mine had his stick
on and burn up the starter. Merc replaced switch and starter
on warrantee.

I'd start by squirting some lock lube in the lock.
