The ratings for the popular valve regulated lead acid absorbent glass mat battery sold by Cabela's under the name Advanced Angler have recently been lowered. The Group 24 size battery is now rated at only 650-Marine Cranking Amperes (MCA), where previously it was rated much higher.

They're now more in line with other manufacturers, such as Lifeline... one might say more realistic.

The change provokes the question: when the Cabela's Advanced Angler battery in Group-24 size was rated so much higher, was it because it was a different battery than the one being offered for sale now? Or, if it was not a different battery, was the former rating accurate?

Only Cabela's knows for sure. They obviously do not manufacture their own batteries. There are really only a handful of Lead Acid battery manufacturers in the world, mostly in Asia (no surprise). Since they are just putting their nameplate on a battery they source they are dependent upon the manufacturer they use.
