Garmin listens to its users. With this new update comes the trip log that has been missing from the units functionality. That's good news for all. Here are the specs to the new software updates. 31572194/file.jpg

BellBoyBob you have what you need now. That's why I like Garmin so much. They listen to customer input!

Tom--Good stuff. The great thing about devices which are controlled by software is that you can upgrade them and fix little mistakes from the previous upgrade.

This is just speculation, but perhaps the feature was omitted due to lack of space in the unit's memory. Perhaps some code was condensed and now there is enough space to put that feature back in.

Jim .....

What I think happened was that the program team failed to realize the value of a trip odometer. After spending 30 + years in the Navy and working around programing engineers Their approach to user functionality sometimes doesn't meet the needs of the end users.

Garmin really does listen to their users after market input. I chat with them a least once a month on issues I would like to see added and improved on. They are very eager to talk about the goods and others when it comes to their units.

Well Tom, you are certainly right! I have had very good customer service from Garmin and now with this update, I think I have every feature I would like for the 540s. With the SD card functionality, will I need to buy a small sized blank card and a usb programmer similar to the Garmin 178 updating procedure to load this update to my 540s?
