The Garmin 440 has the G2 chip saltwater charts preloaded so no chart chip is necessary. I have a fish finder and don't want to pay extra for that feature in a 540. The demo looked good but I am curious about the chart image in actual usage. Thanks in advance, ONH2O

The best I can tell, the difference between the 440 and the 540 is screen size. It is the "s" after the 440s or 540s that designates sounder or fish finder. So a 440 or a 540 has no depth sounder.

The 545 does have higher resolution images.

There may also be difference in processor power, which
translates to a difference in how fast the screen updates.

Thanks to all.

I'm sure even a slow one will update faster than I:-)
