I am really stuck, I bought a speedometer, depth, and water temperature gauge all in one, it is the Raymarine ST40 transom. I am stuck on where to place [the transom mounted paddlewheel transducer], I have a [unrecognized; possibly a brand of boat] with Evinrude E-TEC 40, it has trim tabs and is aluminium. The problem is I really don't know where to place [the transom mounted paddlewheel transducer], on some websites it tells you to not place [the transom mounted paddlewheel transducer] near to the middle of the boat, others say as close as possible to the centre of the back of the boat. Some say you can't place [the transom mounted paddlewheel transducer] near a rivet or near a bump in the boat. I have trim tabs and [the boat is] a v-hull type shape, so please help where do I place the transducer paddle wheel?

Obtain the installation instructions for the Raymarine ST40, and follow their recommendations in preference to something you read on a website. You ought to be able to locate the document on-line if you do not have a printed copy.
