Hi All. My 498 Garmin chart plotter arrived today. I have been playing around with it a quite a bit this evening driving my wife crazy. Seems pretty similar in operation to my handheld.

How do I waterproof the hole that is going to be drilled in the top of my console for the power and transducer cable? Is it better to drill a hole for each cable or try to fit both cables in the same hole?

How do I set the baud rate to 4800 which is the setting that my standard horizon VHF requires?

Thanks,

Andrew

Refer to pages 68 - 70 of your Owners Manual. From page 68 right side (middle) you'll select the NMEA In/NMEA Out Menu.

Andrew -

For the wiring through the console, you have two options:

A) Drill a single hole for both wires, add a dab of caulk and then cover with a clamshell vent. Like this http://store.hamiltonmarine.com/browse.cfm/4,8179.htm

B) Do same as above with a grommet like http://store.hamiltonmarine.com/browse.cfm/4,2407.htm
