I'm in need of a new battery and was wondering if anyone new if a Group 31 battery would fit in the factory battery box in my 2005 170?

Feedjer--Group 24 are small in comparison to Group 31, 31 will not fit in the battery box originally equipped on your 170. If you come across some good 24 let us know. I would like to find some AGM's 24 that fit the box.

Thanks, I thought the 31's were only about an inch longer, their seemed to be a fair amount of play in the box if I recall correctly. For the price of the AGM I think I'm going to pass.

Feejer - I installed a group 31 battery in my Conquest last year and did in fact need to alter the battery mount. A group 24 battery is 10-1/4" long and the group 31 is 13" even. The width is the same for both.

Not a big deal for my installation as there is plenty of room. The problem was after I split the existing mount, the hold-down would not make it across the top. I screwed down two canvas strap type hold-downs and strapped the battery down to them.
