I just recently received delivery of my Boston Whaler 190 Outrage which I fitted with a Garmin 545S. Is possible to use a PC based program to plot, to make up routes and waypoints, then transfer them to Garmin 545S? Seems to me that if possible it was be much easier to plan my routes from a PC at home rather then a dock at the marina. Appreciate feedback from any of those who have the Garmin 545S on board their boat.

Garmin Map Source. Videos for your viewing pleasure.
Make sure you do all the software updates for the unit. The procedure for doing this is covered in the two videos.

Thanks for the information...at least I know that it can be done. However I'm confused looking at the Garmin website I'm lost on where/how to obtain the software and maps to load up on my PC? You would think that they would have some clear support pages set up for this. I would think most people would like to have the abiltiy to pre-plan routes and waypoint from home rather then sitting along side the dock wasting precious sailing time.

You can download free NOAA Nautical maps from:
You can view the maps, create and save waypoints and routes and send them to your Garmin using this free software:
For my Garmin, I bought this cable to power it up in the house and connect it to my PC:
