KING StarBoard Transducer Mounting

Where can I get small amounts of KING StarBoard? Give me recommendations on dimensions and mounting. I have heard 1/2-inch thick, but how wide and long? Does it strengthen the mounting or just allow adjustment of the transducer without adding more holes to the hull?
To mount would you still camfer gel coat holes to mount StarBoard? What size wood screws are best?
For mounting the transducer to the starboard do you simply drill shallow pilot holes and use 1/4- to 3/8-inch wood screws?

As far as I know, the only purpose in using a piece of material such as KING StarBoard as an intermediate plate between the hull of the boat and the SONAR transducer is to provide a way to prevent having to make more than two or three holes in the boat hull (i.e., just the holes needed to mount the intermediate plate). If you need to change the transducer and new holes are needed, the new holes are just made in the intermediate plate, not in the boat hull.
KING StarBoard can be drilled and tapped, so you can use regular machine screws if you like. Or, you can use self tapping screws. I do not think that wood screws offer the best advantage.
Buck Woodcraft sells small amounts of KING StarBoard.
The gel coat of a Boston Whaler hull does not care what material is being fastened to it, so you should relieve the gel coat layer of any hole through which a fastener passes in order to prevent the fastener from putting pressure on the gel coat and cracking it.

Use 3/4" Starboard rather than 1/2".

what length/type of screws would you use to fasten the transducer to the king starboard? Im assuming much shallower than the thickness of the starboard and drill pilot holes?
If I do not choose to use starboard is the fiberglass more apt to chip at the site of the screws from resistance/jarring in choppy seas?

Short answer: No
I've never had an issue with any boat not using starboard. Make sure that you fill the holes and the screws with caulk so when you fasten the screws it creates a waterproof and tight seal. Whenever I drill or cut into fiberglass, I always tape the area with duct tape, mark it and then drill so that I don't get any chipping. Works every time.

Does anyone have a image of a transducer mounted on KING StarBoard? Trying to get an idea of the dimensions. Also what size screws would you use to mount 1/2in starboard into the hull and what size to mount the transducer into the starboard?

Located on lower right. TAP plastics has small amounts of SeaBoard, and the "sand" color is a good match with classic desert tan hulls. I use 1/2-inch SeaBoard. Your mounting screws for the Starboard/SeaBoard should be about 1.5 inches. The plate can be any size, as long as it is larger than your transom mounted transducer plate.
If you are mounting the KING StarBoard using existing holes, take a 2-inch strip of clear scotch tape, and tape over the existing holes. Mark the holes with a sharpie. Remove the tape, and apply it to your KING StarBoard. Drill the sharpie marks. The side of the KING StarBoard with the tape is now the matching screw-head side of the starboard (outboard).
Mount the KING StarBoard with the 1.5-inch screws, do not seal yet. Using your transducer as a template, find a machine screw that mounts the transducer and penetrates the KING StarBoard 3/8 of an inch. Mark the KING StarBoard with the transducer mounting holes while positioning the transducer in the desired spot. Remove the KING StarBoard from the hull and tap the transducer mounting holes in the KING StarBoard. Mount the KING StarBoard back on the transom, using sealant on the KING StarBoard and screws/holes. Mount the transducer to the KING StarBoard.
