Does anyone advise against running transducer cable through one of the scupper holes in the self bailing well in the stern?

Ive heard some say its not smart because it is always wet but that argument does not seem to make sense as the reminder of the cable to the actual tranducer is always submerged.

I ask because I plan to run the tranducer cable along my teleflex steering cable and then down through a scupper hole. I want to do this so I dont need to drill any more holes in the hull for wire clamping.

Thanks, AC

AC:

My old 15 SS had that cable thru the scupper hole since the day I bought it, never a problem, beats drilling a hole through the transom...........

Im ok with using the scupper but I also think the negative aspects of drilling a hole thru the transom are over rated.

Drill your hole above the level of the spill dam. Seal it. Re-drill or rout out a slightly smaller hole still large enough to run the pin connector or sending unit wire thru it. Cover the hole with a ss clam shell.

I advise against running any cables through the transom drain holes. The transom drain holes are there to drain water from the transom splash well. They are not cable conduits. Running electrical cables through the transom drain holes looks sloppy.

Run the electrical cable from the SONAR transducer up and over the transom lip. You do not have to drill a large diameter hole in the transom for the cable unless you have a boat with a full transom. If you have a boat with a full transom and an outboard motor, you already have a cable conduit hole in the the transom for the engine cables, and that hole can be used for the SONAR transducer cable.

I was just looking for a way to not have to drill more holes in the transum with the cable clips humminbird provides. Are there any other options besides that and routing through the scupper holes.
