West Marine has the Garmin 300C color sonar on sale for $150.00. [Give] any feedback on this unit. I'm think of putting it on a small boat for my son.

Any color SONAR for a $150 sounds like a good deal. That is an amazing price point. Do you get all the accessories needed, like a transducer?

Is this a decent unit? Regular price is $250, I am somewhat suspect at that rate.

Perhaps that's a close-out price. I would not suspect any issues. West Marine may not be perfect but in my experience they are ethical and fair.
Garmin does not enjoy a sterling reputation for the performance of their fish finders. But the unit under discussion is probably a good value, in particular for a color unit. The web site says the unit is suited for fresh water lakes. My take is that it would not be a best choice for offshore use but otherwise is probably very decent.
