I [plan] to install a new SONAR on my [Boston Whaler SUPER SPORT 15]. I'd like the transducer to be one unit with temperature, speed paddlewheel, and depth functions. That will keep me from making more holes in my new boat. A color [display of the sonagrams] might be nice. Would a GPS for speed would be better than the paddlewheel? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks.

GPS for speed will be a lot more accurate than a paddlewheel,
but GPS will actual speed (currents are irrelevant) while
paddle wheel will be speed relative to the water (current
affects the speed reading).

I'm not a fan of paddle wheels. The paddle wheel disappeard
off my old FF in about a year. I found the one on the new
one about ready to fall off recently.

See my review of the LOWRANCE 500 series. The SONAR only models are the X510 and X515.
